Inspiration

Klaus Voorman

I've always liked Klaus Voorman's work since I saw the cover of the Beatles Revolver. As well as working closely with the Beatles, he has designed works for and of other bands/musicians as well.

Books

I've always found an appeal in old books, from the covers to the marks on pages. Some of my favourites are generally older and so I love to seek out original or older copies. In a sense, books tell their story in more than just the writing.

Guitars

Guitars are one of my passions! The different styles and sounds amaze me. I'd love to build one of my own someday. One of my all time favourite styles is the Fender Telecaster, I own one myself, as well as an Epiphone SG, an acoustic and a bass guitar. The curves and lines can be very interesting to photograph and draw.

Vinyl Records

This is one of my hobbies and I find the overall aesthetic of vinyl inspiring. Picking up a record and examining it up close, you can see all the small grooves that make the music, this process in itself fasinates me. I also appreciate the larger format for cover designs, there's a lot more to see in comparison to a smaller format like a CD. I like the idea that such a simple concept can be very effective and works to create sound and depth.

Portraiture

I'm inspired by portraiture because it has been a focus of my own work (drawings) and something I've always found interesting to explore. To be able to recreate a persons expression and features can take a lot of time and patience. It can range from the simple to the complex, to the abstract to the hyper realistic, to photographs to paintings and sketches. It's one of the oldest styles out there and contextually can hold a lot of varied meanings and stories.
